Richard J. Pacl, Sr., age 86, of Hillsboro, WI, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025 at Eagle Crest South, Memory Care in La Crosse, WI.
He was born on May 21, 1938 in Hillsboro, WI, the son of Joseph and Georgia (Picha) Pacl. He lived almost his whole life on the family farm, just outside of Hillsboro. He attended school in Hillsboro, graduating from Hillsboro High School in 1956. He was united in marriage to Jane Sittig on August 19, 1967. She preceded him in death on August 18, 2016.
Richard was a farmer most of his life, working the family farm until he was almost 70. During this time, he also drove school bus for 20+ years in the Hillsboro School district. He then worked on a couple of farms for friends/neighbors in the Hillsboro area for a few years. He then went to work for the City Square Apartments doing maintenance for 10+ years. He finally retired (in his words, for the 2nd time) in March of 2022 at the age of 82.
He enjoyed watching sports, especially that of his children and grandchildren; bowling, attending the Tomah Tractor Pull, and Farm Progress/Technology Days. He would always stay busy fixing things or working on some random project.
He is survived by children, Carol Downing of Hillsboro; Helen Pacl (Curt Coshenet) of Winona, MN; Richard Pacl, Jr. (Michele) of La Crosse; grandchildren, Michael and Jacob Ketelsen, Julie (Jared) Tabor and Justin Downing, Morgan and Marshall Pacl, and great-grandchild Corbin; and siblings Bettie (Michael) Luk of Fair Oaks, CA, Beverly Pacl of Wonewoc, and William “Bill” Pacl of Mauston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Pacl, daughter Cindy (Ketelsen) Pacl, and his parents.
Services will be held at Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Wisconsin on Saturday, March 1, 2025. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at 11:00 am. Burial will be in the Mount Vernon Cemetery in Hillsboro.
