Virginia J. Kalb, age 81, of LaValle, WI, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024 at the Reedsburg Area Senior Life Center. She was born on the family farm at Mt. Hope, Grant Co., WI. She moved to Fennimore with her mother and father at eight years old. Her dad built a 24-hour truck stop in 1957.

Ginny was 15 when she got her first job. She went to school and worked the night shift at the truck stop. In 1960 her dad bought another truck stop in Darien. The family moved to Darien and Ginny continued working the night shift.

On May 14, 1961 she married Ernie Kalb. This marriage brought a son Dennis, and a year later, daughter Debra. Ginny worked at the Darien grocery store for a while. She worked at the Darien School Lunch Program baking bread and pies for 10 years.

Ginny, at age 39, went to Tech School and finished her high school diploma. She then, with her everlasting determination, started a CBRF (Community Based Retirement Facility) for the elderly. She ran that, and four years later started a second CBRF. She was very successful for 12-1/2 years. It was because of serious heart trouble she then sold her business.

Ginny was the most loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She just loved and cherished them, along with her nieces and nephews.

In later years she enjoyed quilting and spent hours making handmade quilts. The family has many of them to enjoy and cherish.

Ginny is survived by her husband, Ernie; son Dennis (Dawn) Kalb of Pittsville; daughter Debra (Rich) Marzano of Rockford, IL; along with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Ginny will be held at the Darien Legion Hall on Saturday, September 14, 2024 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 P.M. There will also be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at the Summit Restaurant from 1:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M.

The Farber Funeral Home, Reedsburg, is assisting the family.
