In Loving Memory of Lola Jean Johnson who passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2025 at home, in Hillsboro.
Lola Jean Johnson found joy in life's simplest pleasures — the colors of the sunset reflecting on water, the wagging tail of a happy dog, and most of all, the laughter of her beloved grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Born to Leland and Iola Eliason on December 27, 1948, in Glenwood, Minnesota, Lola grew up with Lake Minnewaska as her playground. She had a lifelong love of the lake that would call her back home throughout her years.
After graduating from Glenwood High School in 1966, Lola reconnected with high school classmate, Rocky Johnson. Their November 1972 wedding marked the start of an adventure that would take them through the halls of Texas A&M, where Rocky studied while Lola worked in the university's Geology Department. Then to Madison, Wisconsin and eventually settling and making their home in Hillsboro, Wisconsin.
For over three decades, Lola was the warm smile greeting anyone who walked through the doors at Rolling Hills Veterinary Clinic. She had a way with animals that seemed almost magical — they'd calm at her presence, sensing the gentleness and genuine care in her heart. Her dedication to her community extended beyond the clinic's walls through her work with the Hillsboro Fireman's Auxiliary, where she built friendships that would last a lifetime.
The open road often called to Lola and Rocky, particularly the familiar path to Canon City, Colorado, where some of their sweetest family memories were made. Yet, no matter how far she roamed, Lake Minnewaska always called her back to her roots in Glenwood.
To know Lola was to love her. She gave without counting the cost, loved without condition, and found beauty in places most would overlook. Without a second thought, she would give the shirt off her back, no matter who you were, regardless if she had another for herself. As her grandchildren grew, she was there for every major milestone, always with the most loving and encouraging smile. She poured into them the same never-ending love and happiness that had shaped her own life, creating a legacy that will last for generations to come.
Lola will be forever missed by many including her husband of 52 years, Rocky Johnson; children, Shana & Nick Johnson; grandchildren Sydney (Chris) Kucinsky & AJ; and great-granddaughter, Larkin Lola Kucinsky. She is also survived by her brother, Leland (Elizabeth) Eliason; brother-in-law, Robbie Johnson; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at the Picha Funeral Home in Hillsboro on Friday, April 25, 2025 from 4-6 PM, with a memorial service to follow at 6 PM.
