Vernon L. Urbanek, 85, of rural Cashton, died Sunday September 15, 2024 at his home. He was born April 4, 1939 to Albin and Julia (Bouda) Urbanek. He graduated from Cashton High School in 1957. Vernon married Ardice Scharping on February 12, 1962 at the English Lutheran Church in Viroqua. The couple farmed their entire married life on Bohemian Ridge, rural Cashton. Vernon also did painting for others, sold Occo Feeds and was always willing to help his neighbors. He continued to be involved on the farm while he was able. He enjoyed hunting, playing cards, the Milwaukee Brewers and beautiful sunsets.

Vernon was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bangor and a lifetime member of the Coon Valley Conservation Club.

Survivors include his wife, Ardice; sons, Dale (Cheryl) of Cashton, Daniel (Mary) of Tomah and Allen (Kirstie) of Bangor; daughters, Lisa (David) Proksch of DeSoto and Sara (Steven) Van Dam of New Berlin; grandchildren, Ryan (Sarah) Urbanek, Casey (Jimmy) Herman, Carrie (fiancé Patrick Rodebaugh), Katelyn Murphy (fiancé Matt Gribben), Rachel (Kyle) Cornwell, Ashley (Brandon) Leiterman, Wendy (Jacob) Smutzer, Abbie Urbanek, Alissa, Seth and Matthew Van Dam; great grandchildren, Ezekiel and Hazel Cornwell, Hannah Leiterman, baby Herman and baby Cornwell; sisters-in-law, Janet Dunnum and Bernadine Scharping and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Urbanek; twin sisters, Arlene and Darlene and many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday September 19, 2024 at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Bangor. Rev. Brock Groth will officiate with burial in the Bohemian Ridge Cemetery, rural Cashton. A visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Seland Funeral Home in Coon Valley and at the church on Thursday from 10 a.m. until service time.
